Kirsten Neuschäfer cannot get to her Boat, so like many #GGR2022 entrants has some extra challenges as the clock never stops! This is a great read where she explains about her challenges and why she chose this particular boat to take on the GGR!...It looks just as capable as she does... :) ... See MoreSee Less
When Kirsten Neuschafer last spoke with the Penobscot Bay Pilot, in mid-March, COVID-19 had just made its way to Maine. It was a time when many believed the brunt of the pandemic would have been contained within a month and area students would be...
Hope the borders open soon enough to get the boat out. I know there are cruisers stuck in Nova Scotia and they seem to be able to leave Canada but have been asking on the forum where they should go this season. I think the post was on the Seven Seas site.
Getting to the start line is always a challenge and the final number of entrants is never known till the day of the start. Sadly Daniel has had to retire from the #GGR2022 but we are all looking forward to watching him cross the start line of the #ggr2026. He joins a large group of sailors already preparing for that, some out looking for yachts right now, others actually starting refits...Good luck to you and your family Daniel, Tough call but 2026 is on the horizon. Keep the Dream alive... :)As we grow and plan for life we tend to view the world from different eyes as time passes us by. Nothing could have prepared us for the instant global changes we’ve had this year. It has changed me in many ways, as I’m sure it has you. Lock downs, travel restrictions, inability to meet friends and family as well as the effects on our jobs and businesses. We have all had to adapt to this new way of life wether we’d like to or not. I’ve dealt with many negatives but have found a lot positives from these changes.
The time spent at home with my family and the time I never would have been able to spend with my daughter, has definitely brought us much closer than ever before. Add our newly arrived twins into the picture and we have had a full house with all hands on deck. We’ve had time to dream and reevaluate our current situation as well as our futures which has also been fun and energizing.
The negatives, which have been the lack of being with family and friends, but mostly on my business which I’ve worked tirelessly on for years, had to adapt and progress under circumstances that no one could predict. Obviously my energy has been focused on dealing with the above and drawn from my preparation for the GGR.
Being a long time dream of mine I want to enjoy this epic event with a clear mind. I don’t want to feel this as another stress but as something I look forward too. This has made me take a difficult decision to postpone my attempt from 2022 to the 2026 edition of the Golden Globe Race.
I know that in the long term this is the right decision and it will allow the right amount of time to prepare in the correct way.
I’m going to be the biggest supporter of all the other competitors and I’d like to thank everyone for all of their support and effort locally and overseas especially Yachting Malta, Pro Link Malta and Malta yacht surveys, who have already dedicated so much time and provided great support as we planned to get to the start line and beyond.
This is not the end of a dream just an adjustment of our heading to battle the storm. #changes #ggr #ggr2022 #goldengloberace #goldengloberace2022 #malta #solosailing #family #ggr2026 #changecourse ... See MoreSee Less
Hi Daniel, you're courageous to be decisive early and regroup for the next round. Great call, and will provide space for planning and preparation, Time flies, and the 2026 race is really not that far away. Look forward to seeing you there!
Hi Daniel, so sorry to lose you and a fellow Biscay 36 from the group in 2022 but I can fully understand your reasoning. Enjoy the time with your very young and rapidly expanded family, and we'll look forward to following your preparations for 2026 and keeping in touch between times.
We fully understand your decision. waiting for 2026 enjoy your family (congratulation) and enjoy your Biscay36. This leave you time to know and prepare her better
September 4th, 2022 Two years from today, a group of adventurous sailors will set out from Les Sables d'Olonne on the third edition of the Golden Globe Race. As was the case in the first two editions , none can predict the outcome, other than to say it will be a celebration of the human spirit during a sporting challenge that is incomparable and in many ways unimaginable. Be ready for another incredible adventure! that truly is pure and simple...One sailor, one boat, no technology, no assistance, NON STOP totally alone!! ...the clock is running... #GGR2022...
Barry Picktall Our 2018 GGR Media manager is finally enjoying his retirement !!!! on his 26ft classic! sent me a short note.. :) and a photo thought I would share 😆😂
We are cruising at the moment - in the worst set of storms in living memory. 81knots recorded at The Needles lighthouse early Wednesday! We are storm bound in Bembridge on the eastern end of the Isle of Wight. Another force 7 forecast for later today
Me at the start of our cruise when we were hit by a sudden downpour - when there was not a breath of wind about! 🤪🧐😎 ... See MoreSee Less
Stay safe Barry - no time constraints in retirement 😂
Sheila, how are you going ⁉️Keep safe Lovies x
A man after my own heart ... still wearing shorts!!!
On t’embrasse, Barry,, on pense fort à toi et tes vacances un peu , euh, comment dire ....? 😊🤗😘
Please ask Barry why he didn't check the weather forecast before he set out at the beginning of the week!!!!
Great shorts Barry
O zi frumoasă!!!
A tin full of farts (free to his maiden comment)
I'm cruising in the Greek Islands, steady F3/4 occ F5. Sunny, the sea is blue and the sun is shinning every day.... My days of being beaten up, cold wet and windy in the UK are just a distant memory. Come and join us. Covid is much lower too....
Such are the joys of sailing!
love it - getting owned and there is diddly squat you can do about it.
Stay safe in the big storms Barry!
Brithish sailing and weather!!! In 1984 we waited out a force 12 at Falmouth, with ball lightning... the next day a Dutchman sailed into harbour looking VERY frazzled!!!
That is the good part of being Indian, we have really good packed food that lasts years.
Hey guys! Nice to hear you again coconut👍
I agree with mark
to a certain extent having some footage really helps a follower of the race visualise what they are going through...if it is just a one way communication i don't think it takes off from the remoteness a competitor experiences...
Pat it was great watching you on YB and imagining what you was going through so Jealous:)
Take preserved lemons
Bugga missed stsrt again!!!!
solo as human... alians do not count as crew
Up the Irish ☘️
Thats true. Pat is now in position to put in the next gear.
Great stuff Pat
Top of the range pat
oh yes 😉
W that about finding a sponsorship manager
How many calories do you eat each day?
The problem in todays world is that even though people romanticize with the idea of GGR; media and sponsors will move away and everyone needs them.
450,000 EUR is madness.
Crowd fund maybe
It can be a problem to make regular contact, then lose it through electronic failure..people worry..Need multiple back ups to get the reliability....simplicity is good, but backup safety systems critical.
i think the few pounds extra that I have will be handy to fall back on for the body when needed in the GGR22 ... My story
No crowdfunding till you go viral ]
I would totally do tiktoks because that is the big thing now, but you never know what would be big in 2022
