The 17-entrant provisional fleet is gathering in Les Sables-d’Olonne.The skippers are preparing for one of the most difficult challenges of their lives, starting on 6 September 2026.
Recognised as the Grandmother of the Vendée Globe: the GGR is a solo, non-stop, unassisted round-the-world race, without GPS or modern electronic navigation aids.
Competitors sail traditional production yachts and navigate with sextants, compasses and paper charts, using the sun and stars.
The 17 sailors, representing 11 countries, are preparing to embark on this exceptional adventure with one ambition: to finish.
Some will also hope to win—and beat the 211-day GGR record set by legendary French sailor Jean-Luc Van Den Heede.
In the past three editions of the GGR, 43 sailors started and only nine finished!
Come meet these adventurers in the midst of their preparations
