The GGR is proud to be supporting SITraN, the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience

The Golden Globe Race 2018 is proud to support SITraN, the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience, as its charity of choice for this year’s race. SITraN, based at the University of Sheffield, England, is one of the world’s leading centres for research into Motor Neurone Disease, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease.

Opened in 2010 by Her Majesty The Queen, SITraN is an international centre of excellence, bringing together experts from a range of interconnected neurological disease areas into one team, in one location, to lead the fight against motor neuron disease and other common neurodegenerative disorders of the motor system.

It is an international centre of excellence for basic through to applied research in neurodegenerative disease, taking promising, emerging therapies from the lab, and translating them into practical treatments to be used in a hospital setting.

“We are thrilled to be associated with this prestigious event. Your support and awareness raising will drive our research effort to a new level for the benefit of patients with neurological conditions. Donations enable us to develop exciting discoveries emerging from basic neuroscience research into experimental medicine studies aimed at developing new treatments and better outcomes for our patients. Thank you and good luck to all the skippers”
Dame Professor Pamela Shaw, Founding Director of SITraN.

How to support

We would like to encourage all our supporters to join us in promoting the incredible work done by SITraN to fight some of the very worst diseases in medicine, as well as raising funds to allow the vital research they are carrying out to continue. Donations can be made in a variety of currencies via the Golden Globe Race JustGiving page.

If you have any questions or would like any advice on how you can fundraise for SITraN, please contact
David Meadows, d.meadows@sheffield.ac.uk or Telephone +44 114 222 1073.

The Just Giving page is set up and ready to go. You can view it here.

The real beauty of this page is that is makes donating from anywhere in the world relatively easy and also allows people to click on a button where they can set up their own fundraising page for SITraN as a result of their connection with the GGR 2018.

Donors can also leave a public message on this page when they make a donation so they may want to wish the skippers good luck or remember a loved one.
