Simon from Emsworth , UK. Currently resident in the Morbihan, near Pontivy with his nautical base at Lorient, France.

Simon is an experienced and competitive sailor who enjoys racing shorthanded. He sailed a Mini Transat campaign in 2000/01 culminating in a second place finish in the 2001 Mini Transat to Salvador da Bahia, and has campaigned J105 Voador for 15 years to multiple race wins, including a class win in the Fastnet Race double handed. The Golden Globe Race represents the opportunity to fulfil a lifelong ambition to race around the world inspired by the early adventurers, and to experience the southern oceans in a true test of seamanship and endurance. The time and the event are right for 2022!

Simon has selected a sloop rigged Biscay 36 for the race for its seaworthiness and strength, and the fact that Clara was built his UK home base of Emsworth.

Clara is a sloop rigged Biscay 36, built in 1976 at Emsworth Yacht Harbour from moulds by Robert Ives to the design by Alan Hill. Bought in 2019 in good cruising condition, she will be sailed extensively over the coming seasons prior to a refit in 2021 in preparation for GGR 2022.
