About the GGR Window

The ethos of the GGR is simple. No computers, no satellite comms for communication to anyone except GGR, and total sailor isolation. You cannot use satellites or Starlink for 24-hour LIVES without computers.

So we decided to build a unique control system, hardware and new management software from the ground up with the help of TriPeak AB in Sweden. The design brief: no onboard computers, no way to download anything, no way to speak with anyone, yet still do LIVE streaming video and show skipper biometrics, like heart rate, body temperature and blood pressure, LIVE to the world for eight months!

No one has ever streamed LIVE 24/7 for an around-the-world yacht race and the GGR is no ordinary race! With this new equipment and software, we can do it and still maintain the ethos of the GGR, like it’s 1968, which we protect fiercely.

Don McIntyre, GGR Founder and Organiser

TriPeak is a Swedish technology company building purpose-built product solutions for demanding operating environments. We deliver complete systems end to end — hardware design, embedded software, systems integration, cloud platform, and field operations — rather than separate components handed off to integrators. We work with companies across the full arc of technology-centric product development, from early idea and concept work through to delivered systems in the field, and take on consulting engagements where a team needs technical depth on a specific problem. For the Golden Globe Race 2026, TriPeak is the streaming platform partner, delivering the one-way live system that brings a solo, ten-month circumnavigation to a global audience.

Moderators

@MatthewMaw-q3f

Matthew is an Australian former Defence Force member with a background in vehicle mechanics and operational service. He has recently joined the Golden Globe Race moderation team and is passionate about supporting the sailors, the race and the wider GGR community. He brings a calm, fair and experienced approach to his role and looks forward to being part of the 2026 Golden Globe Race.

@paulrow1169

As a youngster, Paul gained experience sailing dinghies. He spent his working life at sea and upon retirement bought a 21ft. cutter for day sailing in River Fal and the outlying coastal area of west Cornwall in the south-west tip of the UK. He is excited to follow the Golden Globe Race this year and share his support and enthusiasm for both its entrants and fans.

@katieanderson5680

Katie is a sailing enthusiast with offshore experience on both tall ships and small ships. She holds a USCG captain’s license and has spent the past ten years crewing and skippering boats across international waters, including the Caribbean, South Pacific, and Mediterranean. She is currently studying Global Communications and International Affairs in graduate school in Washington, DC.

@ski22

Bret grew up in New England on the US Atlantic seacoast, home of the battlecry, “We’re gonna need a bigger boat!” He has a US boating license, and has crewed deep sea fishing and whale watching boats, as well as commercial fishing and lobster boats. Today, he mostly enjoys recreational boating. Bret’s hobbies include snorkeling, waterskiing, hockey, kayaking, amateur marine biology, and being on the water whenever possible. His favorite sailing movies include Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and Captain Ron. “Don’t worry. They’ll get out of the way. I learned that driving the Saratoga.”

@Sailsonly1

Steve lives on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where he grew up around the water—surfing, fishing, and sailing. In the 1980s, he raced sailboats around the cans, worked as a sailing instructor in Annapolis, and worked as a delivery skipper along the East Coast and throughout the Caribbean. He has sailed his Cape Dory 36 since 1983, both cruising and living aboard, and has always had a particular love for offshore sailing and the challenge of becoming a better mariner. He enjoys sharing his sailing knowledge and experiences with others, especially his love of being offshore. He is excited to be a moderator for the GGR and looks forward to sharing his enthusiasm for the race, its sailors, and the incredible seamanship and adventure it represents.

@ResX-18

Ron currently lives in the Smoky Mountains, Tennessee. Growing up, he spent his time fishing and boating off the coast of New Jersey. His biggest adventure to date was serving as a 1st mate aboard a 42′ Hatteras along the Intracoastal Waterway from Norfolk, Virginia to Hilton Head, South Carolina. He is deeply passionate about everything related to boating and fishing, and he feels truly honoured to be a part of the 2026 GGR Mod team.

@Iceman2026-e8i

Chris Christensen learned to sail at age eight on Oregon’s Columbia River and has spent more than five decades on the water. He has taught sailing in San Diego, worked for The Log, raced in the Transpac, and sailed from Canada to Mexico and throughout the Caribbean. He has also worked aboard charter boats and served as delivery crew and skipper. What keeps him sailing is the same sense of adventure he felt as a child: once the wind fills the sails, you never know what lies over the horizon.
