Our only Italian entry is finally out training in his beautiful and potentially fast Vancouver 34!! with plenty of time between now and the start of #GGR2022 ....looking good indeed!Last week Hannah and I finally took to sea after long months and years of hard work and yard sessions, only interrupted by sporadic sailing stints of some hours around Punta Ala in very benign summery breezes. The time has finally arrived for some serious sailing in conditions which promise to be testing for both boat and skipper given they will take place in the Autumn, Winter and 2021 Spring seasons . A lot of work remains to be done, but the major projects have been completed and it's time to refine the details that only spending time on the water can solve. The original plan was to start sailing Hannah at the beginning of September to gradually build up training to the more trying conditions of the Winter months. Unfortunately COVID 19 had set us back three months and only the brilliant and untiring work of the whole team has allowed us to make up for most of that lost time. Now it's time to have some serious fun on the water and do a bit of constructive damage to understand the limits of boat and skipper, overcome them and push onto the next phase. Let the games begin ! ... See MoreSee Less
Today is all about the Vendée Globe race village official opening..I was happy to be invited and Aida made a great walking live before the public crowds, just for official guests and you if you feel like it. All the skippers were present. You will see our GOLDEN Globe "Gold" office in the background!! 😉😁 #GGR2022 Bravo Les Sables d'Olonne and all organisers and entrants for making this event happen in tough times!!...

I first met David Scott Cowper on his first solo voyage around the world to beat Sir Francis Chichester's record in 1979 and have been lifelong friends since. He will be 80 when he crosses the start line of the #GGR2022. Here is just part of his story if you have the time :) he is considered by some as the Greatest Living yachtsman??
This winter Tapio will be back working on ASTERIA in preparation for the #GGR2022. this is a great story about a GREAT sailor with a program that is inspiring many! :) The Finnish skipper’s voice cracks slightly as he describes the flotilla of Optimist dinghy sailors who greeted him on his arrival in Helsinki after finishing fifth the 2018-19 Golden Globe Race For him, it is a more cherished memory than finishing his 322-day solo circumnavigation of the world and ranks equal to hoisting the Finnish flag as he rounded Cape Horn; the first time it has been raised there on a racing boat in three decades.
Mark Sinclair is looking good! National Flags are required on all #GGR2022 Mainsails. It is all about the Stories, Nationalities and Heros! :)sticking the Australian flag on Coconut's mainsail to satisfy addition to Golden Globe Race Notice of Race 5.4.3. Entrant's national flag to be permanently fixed to both sides of the mainsail, 40cm high, 75cm from the clew and 40cm above the foot. Winter mainsail done; now swap them over and do the summer one. Thanks Bravo Sails for sourcing the printing on sticky-back sail material, not to mention Wilson and Hamish for the help! ... See MoreSee Less
This Tuesday #GGR2022 Facebook Live, we will have our South African Entry Jeremy Bagshaw and his OE32 masthead cutter "Olleanna"..... "Olleanna" was doing so well, was flying with Are Wiig in #GGR2018 Don't miss out the live😉... ... See MoreSee Less
Great to hear that Olleanna has been repaired and will have a new go. This Olle Enderlein-design performs really well, especially down-wind, so I really look forward following her once again. I was also impressed by the seamanship Aare Wiig proved by sailing the damaged vessel to port in South-Africa.
It's OFFICIAL...every Friday we will share Mike Smith's analysis of the #GGR2022 Ghost fleet, as if they were racing this year. You will see the possible Windyty weather they would have if in that position and times associated with sailing around the course. This is of great interest to entrants, but also our GGR family to gauge the difference in the expected weather sailing about two months behind the #GGR2018 fleet. THANKS Mike!! :) ..good sailing for now ... See MoreSee Less
WOW... #GGR2022 entrant Mike Smith is running a program to simulate the GGR fleet moving around the world and looking at the weather experienced...invaluable info for future entrants....maybe top secret for Mike :) ..but here is a taste...wining is all about PLANNING, PREPARATION and then EXECUTION! :) ... While you are there, you may want to ask them about the following line on the VG website:
"To date, the Vendée Globe is THE ONLY (🧐) sailing race round the world, solo, non-stop and without assistance."
I love the VG and can't wait for the start, but isn't that a bit unfair to the GGR?
The Heritage of the 1968 Sunday Times Golden Globe runs in the Whitbread and Vendee Globe Races. Many will remember Lionel from the 2018 GGR as a retired entrant then selling his boat to UKU and then joining JL VDH as boat prepature...now he has some BIG news! McIntyre Adventure is now the organiser of the #GGR2022#OGR2023 and #mgr2024 :)
