Michael Davey is charging ahead right now.. #GGR2022Hi everyone! It has been a little while since I provided an update. My apologies. Much has happened. On the personal side, my father recently passed away. Being overseas rebuilding this boat made it just that bit harder but my two beautiful sisters and their husbands organised everything and took care of our mum. A memorial lunch was held in Palm Cove which I was able to attend. It reinforced the fact family and friends are everything! Dream Catcher (now officially “The Dream Catcher” Australian registered vessel) continues to suffer from our destructive machinations - apart from engine and saloon everything has been stripped out or off or taken apart (and even the saloon is in bits and pieces). However, reconstruction is underway. Crash bulkhead and forward compartment bulkheads in place, stringers and rib reinforcement in place and painting largely done. Custom aluminium bulkhead door dry fitted. Dorade plumbing redesign fitted. Cockpit gas locker and lazarette done. All pretty good we think for a couple of guys who are supposed to be in retirement phase! But, ooooh! There’s still a fair bit to go! Merry Christmas everyone, and safe, happy sailing! ...

In September 2018, Tomy had sailed into hurricane force conditions in the most remote and uncharted part of the Indian Ocean. To mark the anniversary of his accident Tomy this year took part in a 50 kilometre kayaking race in Goa, which he said he won
"I recently won a small championship in Goa. Within one year of breaking my spine, I did 50 kilometres of kayaking. That was to mark the first anniversary of my accident. I am trying to get back in the same race in 2022. It is the 75th anniversary of Independence," he said.
Commander Abhilash Tommy and wife URMI with a real GGR family if you know the story. It was a race to see if Tomy could reach Les Sables d'Olonne before the baby was born. In the end he cut the corner and returned home faster as a VIP.. Now part of GGR History, not just a fairy-tale. :)...hoping to see him return in #GGR2022.When the Navy Day was a happy one! ... Yes I was really hoping it would come out in English too. JLVDH'S books also. We are missing some great books. If I knew a Translator I would get the books translated for them, but I do not know a translator that could do it. There might be a job opportunity there for someone who knows French, Estonian, and English. 😢
Yes,it would be wonderful to read. looking forward.
Yes hope to see a translation in English, it would be great to read the book!
How can I get a copy of this book? I can read Estonian!
Hopefully a movie in the making. I love the cover photo.
I'm still hoping that Mark Slats' book will be published in English soon😀!
Seguro que la traducción al español demora más.....
Mark Slats just went around Cape Horn..a year ago!! :) #GGR2018Throw back Monday: exactly one year ago I rounded Cape Horn in the Golden Globe Race. It took me 153 days to get there, rounding the third and final Cape. No time to take pictures (which wasn't even possible as it was pitch dark), keep on going: pushing my boat and myself. I needed to catch up with someone ;-)
What an adventure! What a race! When I relive these moments I get highly motivated in whatever I'm doing, such an adrenaline rush still!
Thanks for the reminder Don. I remember that day. What a race!!!
The nail biting days of the G.G.R... Where is Susie Goodall, she disappeared from her followers..She got rescued about a year ago and promised a full detailed report of what did happen..That was a very tense time period, just to get around the Cape Horn..Thanks again Mark and Don for sharing..
Tapio Lehtinen Sailing The last sail of the season was done yesterday in chilly conditions but warm spirits with an enthusiastic group of friends of Galiana. Almost 100 sailors have joined us for the home delivery from the UK, two trips to Tallinn and a number of weekend daysails, thank you everyone! Thanks Ville Norra again for the video! My ambition is to recruit a Finnish crew for the 2023 Ocean Globe Race (www.oceangloberace.com) with most sailors being 20-35 yrs during the race. The main selection criteria will be right attitude and physical condition. Sailing and especially helming skills gained in dinghy & off shore racing are most important but also special skills (sails, rig, engine, electrical, shipwright, medical, cooking, photo/video etc) will be taken into consideration. Interested aspirants can contact me through email, firstname.lastname@example.org. The plan is to grow a fairly big crew pool, offer sailing opportunities for the interested and select the final OGR crew only after enough sailing has been done. The main objective of the Galiana OGR -project is to increase interest towards ocean racing and to pass on the legacy of the Finnish Whitbread RTWR sailors to a new group of next generation sailors. Thanks Ville Norra again for the video and the songs. ... See MoreSee Less
