Aida Ogr joined the #GGR2018 family a year before the start volunteering in many different capacities and as one of our FRENCH Live teams at the Start , film drops in Lanzarote and Hobart as well as the finishes in Les Sables d'Olonne. She covered the event for some media outlets. Her impressions of this huge GGR family, the challenges entrants faced and how it effected her own life during this time, her travels away from the GGR and the cultural exchanges make an interesting story. He personal log of that experience was published in French last year and was well received. It is now available in ENGLISH here. It's a bit like the GGR from the outside looking in and personal travels to strange places in life! :) ..... Thanks Aida Ogr...Her own review....follows
I tried all week to make an English version with pics, not easy at all when ebook 😅
Without adventure, or those who are prepared to push themselves, the world is worse off ", this is what Don McIntyre shared with me one afternoon December at the Paris Boat Show.
After following the Golden Globe Race around the world for the past year, I have to say I fully agree with him. Without adventure, without people sufficiently mad to push and exceed their limits on a daily basis, we would quickly find ourselves submerged by trivial concerns of everyday life.
Some people ask why such risks are taken. And why people go to sea. These questions need to be put to the sailors themselves, to each individual sailor, and to each of their loved ones. During the twelve months I spent with the GGR family, I saw as many answers to these questions as I saw families, couples, and individual life stories. I think also that I have finally understood that having a goal in life, or even just a dream, no matter how challenging, no matter how ill-prepared we are, is the best way to ensure that we survive the anxieties and aggressions and fears of our fast-paced lives.
As for my own goal, I'm not sure what it is yet, I’m not sure what your goal will be either. But one thing I do know is that at 43 years of age, this year I spent with these men and these women, with Don McIntyre and with Jane, have irrevocably changed the way I view the world and life in general.
This account does not claim to be anything other than my attempt to narrate how I encountered and followed these seamen, day by day. I began writing it one winter's day, a month after my return from Tasmania. ... See MoreSee Less

THIS IS A MUST LISTEN!! Two years on and Susie Goodall for the first time ever has spoken openly in detail about her #GGR2018 experience, that storm and the effect it has had on her life then and now. Two years on and not a day goes by that she dose not think about the GGR. Her final comments in this podcast are very poignant. This is a true insight into an amazing lady...I was fascinated listening to this and for the sailors it is full of useful information. She now regrets deploying the Series Drogue not because it broke, but she feels she would have had a better chance sailing on. Thanks Susie. The podcast is here and it starts about 22 minutes in... open.spotify.com/episode/7eiNZazorlufZ5cWrLi39k OR HERE www.59-north.com/onthewindpodcast/296-susie-goodall-ggr... See MoreSee Less
This PodCast was amazing! To listen to Susie’s own words, describing what she went through, hearing her own words of her GGR experience finally put some closure on this chapter of her amazing life.
Just finished listening to this, essential for all GGR family. Hearing it from Susie with her recollection of what happened and how she felt about it is raw and magical. I’ll listen to it again!
Susie’s story was tough to hear. She has unfinished business but what a rollercoaster ride. Poignant telling. Fingers-crossed she makes it to the start line again sometime. I also loved her story of exciting Cuba in haste on a Challenge 67 due to lockdown 😎
Spotify is not available in The Bahamas so I will need to listen to the podcast some other way. Thanks for sharing Susie and keep sailing.
Great listen, well done Susie:)
I've just listen to it, amazing ! That's first hand testimony...
Thanks for posting this. For those who followed the race it was an important story to hear.
For some unknown reasons my app doesn't work.
Is there a different place where i can listen this podcast? Thank you

For GGR to call Les Sables d'Olonne home is a real priviledge. It happened because of three things. 1.The Golden Globe is like no other event on earth, 2. Our good friend Jean Luc Van Den Heede saw a opportuity for Les Sables and 3. Yannick Moreau had the courage to believe in the GGR Dream and what it stood for and may become. Again, he backed #GGR2022 with unanimous support from all sections of the community who are now GGR family. I amYannick Moreaurt that same family have just elected Les Sables d'Olonne Agglomération of this great new Les Sables d'Olonne Agglomération for the next six years!!.. BRAVO Yannick!! :) you have show you are leading your community in a bold, dynamic and progressive way. For your ongoing Commitment and Passion for the GGR dream, we salute you and your amazing team!!. Les Sables is like no other place on earth!
Merci
