GGR 2026: Day 6

THE LEADERS

🇫🇷 Damien Guillou – SOLAREM

Damien continues to lead after covering 156 nautical miles in 24 hours, with his latest speed around 6.3 knots. He now holds an advantage of approximately 60 miles over Pat, with favourable winds expected to help both leaders extend their separation from the chasing fleet.

🇮🇪 Pat Lawless – SILVERMINES HYDRO

Pat recorded 147 nautical miles in 24 hours and is following a direct course south towards Lanzarote. Although Damien has gained a little more ground, Pat remains well positioned to stay in the stronger breeze and pull further clear of the boats behind.

THE CHASING PACK

🇮🇹 Andrea Lodolo – BIBI

Andrea remains third after an impressive 161-mile day. His latest four-hour average of 7.2 knots was among the fastest highlighted in the report, keeping him at the front of the chasing group.

🇮🇱 Daniel Pinsky – EXODUS

Daniel covered 145 nautical miles in 24 hours, maintaining a strong position behind Andrea. His more inshore route is bringing lighter winds than those enjoyed by boats further offshore, potentially leaving him vulnerable to their faster progress.

🇬🇧 Ertan Beskardes – MISS BEAGLE

Ertan recorded a solid 143-mile day, but his inshore position is also keeping him in lighter breeze. With several boats making rapid progress offshore, he faces pressure from the chasing sailors.

🇺🇸 Guy deBoer – SPIRIT

Guy delivered the standout performance of the report, covering 177 nautical miles in 24 hours and powering through the fleet. After his earlier frustration in light winds, he is making significant gains, although continuing on his present course could take him back into weaker breeze.

🇨🇭 Etienne Messikommer – BERNARD

Etienne covered 160 nautical miles, gaining eight miles on Guido during their close offshore contest. GGR Window footage showed him pushing hard in strong following winds, with Guido visible on the horizon and boat speeds briefly exceeding nine knots.

🇮🇹 Guido Cantini – HANNAH OF COWES

Guido posted 152 nautical miles in 24 hours, making good use of the stronger offshore breeze. Although Etienne edged ahead in their daily mileage battle, Guido continues to maintain a competitive pace.

🇫🇷 Louis Kerdelhué – IE CHARGE

Louis recorded 143 nautical miles in 24 hours and was making approximately 6.2 knots at the latest update. He continues to move well, although the biggest daily gains have come from others in the chasing pack.

🇬🇧 Henry Wootton – PRIVATEER

Henry is finding his stride with a strong 151-mile day and a latest speed around 5.8 knots. Sailing towards the back of the middle group, his inshore route offers smoother seas but slightly less wind.

FURTHER BACK

🇳🇴 Mara – SHOWGIRL

Mara continues to hold her own as the fleet heads south. No specific speed or daily distance was given for her in this report, but she was described as doing well and maintaining her position within the group.

🇨🇦 Isa Rosli – OLLEANNA

Isa covered 109 nautical miles in 24 hours and was sailing at approximately 6 knots. The improving breeze offers an opportunity to build on that progress and reduce the gap to the boats ahead.

🇺🇸 Gunnar Christensen – POMPOEN

Gunnar recorded 103 nautical miles in 24 hours, with a latest speed around 5.4 knots. He is moving steadily, although he needs stronger daily runs to match the pace of the middle fleet.

🇺🇸 Matt Woodside – TIPI HAERE

Matt’s displayed figures showed 64 nautical miles in 24 hours and a speed of approximately 5.2 knots as the breeze returned. A tracker update glitch was also noted, meaning his displayed position may have made him appear further behind than he actually was.

STILL BATTLING LIGHT WINDS

🇹🇷 Selim Yalcin – HELP DISABLED CHILDREN

Selim remains hampered by light winds, covering just 39 nautical miles in 24 hours and moving at around 1.5 knots. His westward course has delayed his progress south towards the stronger breeze, with the leader now approximately 450 miles away.

🇸🇪 Pär Nyman – LAZY OTTER

Pär’s displayed daily run was just 18 nautical miles after spending an extended period becalmed, although his latest speed had improved to approximately 4.1 knots. Missed tracker updates were also discussed, with the race team monitoring the issue and reporting no immediate cause for concern.

WEATHER AND THE RUN TO LANZAROTE

The next 48 hours could further divide the fleet. Damien and Pat are expected to retain more consistent wind, while the middle group faces a softer patch that could increase its deficit to roughly 240 miles behind the leaders.

Stronger winds further north should help the trailing boats accelerate, while much of the fleet currently enjoys sunshine and following seas of around two to three metres. Provisional estimates suggest Damien could reach the Lanzarote film gate around midnight on 15 September, with Pat following during the early morning of 16 September, depending on how the forecast develops.
